Industrial dehumidifier

A locally developed industrial dehumidifier, designed to reduce reliance on imported equipment and to be serviced and customised close to where it runs.

In development. This product is under active development by ValensAir and is not yet commercially available. Details on this page describe the technology and our development goals, not a released product.

Humidity control. Engineered at home.

Many processes need air drier than ordinary air conditioning can deliver: hygroscopic powders, gelatin capsules, effervescent products, lithium processing and cold stores among them. A desiccant rotor dehumidifier dries air by adsorption rather than condensation, so it keeps working at low dew points and low temperatures where cooling coils cannot.

Desiccant rotor dehumidifier, operating principle Humid process air is filtered and passes through the larger sector of a slowly rotating desiccant rotor, which adsorbs its moisture. The process fan delivers the dry air. A smaller reactivation air stream is filtered, heated and passed through the rotor's reactivation sector in the opposite direction, driving the moisture out; the reactivation fan exhausts this wet air outdoors. Operating principle

  1. Process air is filtered

Humid process air is drawn in through a filter that protects the desiccant rotor from dust.

  2. The rotor adsorbs moisture

Process air passes through the larger sector of the slowly turning desiccant rotor. Water vapour is adsorbed onto the desiccant and dry air leaves the rotor.

  3. Dry air is delivered

The process fan supplies the dry air to the room or process. Adsorption releases heat, so dry air leaves slightly warmer; a post-cooling coil can be added where temperature matters.

  4. Reactivation air is heated

A separate, smaller stream of air is filtered and heated before entering the rotor’s reactivation sector, flowing in the opposite direction to the process air.

  5. Moisture is exhausted

The hot reactivation air drives moisture out of the desiccant. The reactivation fan exhausts this warm, wet air outdoors, and the dried rotor turns back into the process sector.
